To cater for growing domestic energy demands, PT Pertamina EP (PEP) – a subsidiary of state-owned oil and gas company Pertamina (Persero) – is tasked with sustainably managing domestic petrochemical production.
Responsible for upstream activities, PEP concentrates on exploration and production of oil and gas across the region.
In order to maintain a level of production capable of satisfying tomorrow’s energy needs, PEP is focused on improving the accuracy of field exploration activities and optimising production levels.
Geographic Information System (GIS) technology is critical in supporting PEP achieve their goals – acting as a single-platform solution for the storage, management, retrieval and analysis of spatial operational data.
The powerful data management and visualization tool allows information to be easily accessed and shared among departments, improving internal collaboration and communication.
Meanwhile, the technology’s mobile capabilities not only help guide workers to exact locations in the field – they provide them with comprehensive information relating to their position, significantly enhancing overall situational awareness.
Equally as important is the ability to produce maps with input from multiple sources, ensuring the most accurate and up-to-date records are directing exploration, production activities and field operations.
Another key aspect of sustainable production is the exploitation of decommissioned wells, where new extraction techniques are employed to draw further resources from previously abandoned sources.
GIS technology’s superior analytical capabilities ensures calculations to determine the viability of re-opening old wells can be completed with ease.
Using ArcGIS for Server, wells can be monitored in near real-time – with a web-based dashboard displaying individual well details, including name, location, status and production data.
