We are Ammar Asfari and Chandra Perdana, students at the Department of Geography at Universitas Indonesia. We joined Esri Indonesia's one month internship program (January 3 – February 3, 2017) to gain professional GIS experience and a better understanding of how the technology can be put to use to solve real world challenges.
On our first day of the internship, we were welcomed by Education Manager, Regina Maria Hitoyo and our mentors: presales engineers, Ramdhani Fajri and Lusiana Suwandi, the latter of whom was a former participant in the Esri Indonesia Graduate Program, Spatial Heroes.
Our task for the internship was to complete a land banking project for Pt Lippo Karawaci Tbk, an Indonesia-based company primarily engaged in property development, using ArcGIS applications, which we were trained on during the internship.
With guidance from our mentors and other Esri Indonesia staff, we started to process the land parcel data that was already provided to us and integrating it with a variety of ArcGIS apps, including ArcGIS Online, Collector for ArcGIS, Operations Dashboard for ArcGIS, GeoForm, Workforce for ArcGIS, and Survey123 for ArcGIS and WebApp Builder.
Our final project included Webmap which displayed data on size, price, certificate, and photos of the land parcels; an Operations Dashboard to monitor the application of targeted marketing of existing properties; and a marketing dashboard equipped with a WebApp that analyses data to identify land that has more than one certificate.
We also used the GeoForm application to monitor residents’ complaints related to the property and infrastructure; the GeoForm Dashboard can also be used to monitor the use of other applications such as: GeoForm, Workforce for ArcGIS, and Survey123 for ArcGIS.
Workforce for ArcGIS was used to coordinate the distance between the property developer and inspectors in the field to resolve complaints efficiently, and field inspector used Survey123 for ArcGIS to collect data on the actual condition of the properties. Finally, all apps were channeled to ArcGIS Online, which was used as a data-sharing portal.
We presented our project to our mentor and other senior level staff at Esri Indonesia who provided valuable feedback and advice both on our project and presentation style.
At the end of the fourth week, we were given an opportunity to do an ArcGIS Online platform sharing exercise with Grade 12 students majoring in Computer Network Engineering at Polimedik Depok. We introduced them to Survey123 for ArcGIS and Esri Story Maps to raise their awareness of GIS technology, explain its potential and demonstrate how it can be used to solve real-world challenges.
On the last day of our internship, we presented our final project, to a wider audience including the Esri Indonesia CEO and other senior staff members, all of whom offered valuable feedback. We would like to thank all those who have helped and advising us in completing the project that we made. We are grateful for the opportunity that has been given. It is an honor for us to participate on Esri Indonesia Internship Program in 2017.
