Pak Hasanuddin Abidin is a renowned geodesy expert in Indonesia. He was entrusted to lead Indonesia’s Geospatial Information Agency – locally known as Badan Informasi Geospasial (BIG) - in December 2016.
BIG has a strategic role in assessing national policies, developing basic geospatial information, and in guiding various surveying and mapping activities. It also plays a key role in developing the country’s geospatial information infrastructure and network.
Prior to his role as Head of BIG, Pak Hasanuddin has been working at ITB (Institut Teknologi Bandung) as the Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology of Earth. Prior to this, he was the Vice Rector of Communications, Partnerships and Alumni for five years, and Chairman of the Scientific Group of Geodesy at ITB for six years.
Pak Hasanuddin has been awarded numerous national and global accolades throughout his career as a lecturer and a scientist.
He holds a Bachelor’s degree from the Department of Electrical Engineering, ITB, Indonesia. In addition, he also holds a Master’s and Doctorate degree from the Department of Surveying Engineering, University of New Brunswick, Fredericton, Canada.
