Local ivy league research university Gadjah Mada University (UGM) has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with leading geospatial solutions provider Esri Indonesia and the Geospatial Information Agency, aimed at fostering stronger industry linkages and promoting the use of smart mapping technology in research and development work.

Esri Indonesia CEO Bima Priadi, UGM Rector Prof. Ir. Dwikorita Karnawati and Geospatial Information Agency Head Dr. Priyadi Kardono, signed the MoU at the Recrorate Building located at the UGM campus on 18 February 2015.

Under the MoU, UGM will receive an education licence program – composed of software licences and technical workshops – which is designed to broaden the scope and impact of various academic endeavours pursued by students, lecturers and researchers.

Furthermore, included in the program is the provision of various GIS resources and publications from Esri Indonesia and two all-access passes to the Esri Asia Pacific User Conference happening in Thailand later this year.

“Through this partnership, we can give students the opportunity to leverage location information and technology in a way they never thought was possible. By doing so, we are giving them a room to be daring, test their creativity and innovativeness as they create applications that enables them to better understand the world around them,” said Mr Priadi.
