Product name changes introduced at ArcGIS 10.5
Two of the biggest changes coming as part of ArcGIS 10.5 relate to new product names. One change is slight and won’t impact the related product; the other is more comprehensive, and essentially brands a total product restructure.
From 10.5 onwards, ArcGIS for Desktop will simply be known as ArcGIS Desktop.
ArcGIS for Server, however, is expanding and taking on a new name entirely. Introducing ArcGIS Enterprise.
This product will stand as a stack of server components, including:
ArcGIS Server (formerly ArcGIS for Server)
Portal for ArcGIS
ArcGIS Data Store
ArcGIS Web Adaptor
The change from ArcGIS for Server to ArcGIS Enterprise is necessary to meet the increasingly sophisticated and demanding needs of users.
ArcGIS Enterprise delivers everything you need to launch your own dedicated Web GIS infrastructure – and this new name reflects this evolution, and the product’s advanced analysis capabilities.
The ability to collaborate portal-to-portal encourages greater information sharing between departments, and it’s easier to extend ArcGIS by adding premium capabilities, including new spatial analytics app Insights for ArcGIS.
ArcGIS Enterprise is designed for native cloud deployments (Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure), giving you flexible options that match your infrastructure needs.
The product also features content from the ArcGIS Living Atlas of the World, to improve your visualisation and analysis.
